5 NFL teams that should bench their quarterbacks

Week 4 of the NFL season is almost over and here’s five teams that need to bench their quarterbacks.

Sunday’s slate of NFL games was wrapped up with an epic battle between Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Mac Jones and the New England Patriots. Not every team is lucky enough to have seen success at the quarterback position so far this season, though. If the offense can’t put up points on the board, not even a solid defense can overcome that.

Here’s five teams that should bench their quarterbacks, ASAP.

Five NFL teams that need to find new quarterbacks

5. San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo left Sunday’s 28-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at the end of the first half with a calf injury. Garoppolo went 14-of-23 for 165 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Rookie quarterback Trey Lance took over for Jimmy and launched a 76-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the second half. Lance completed 9-of-18 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Prior to taking over for Jimmy, Trey had only thrown for five yards and a touchdown over the previous three weeks. The No. 3 pick in the 2021 Draft proved that he’s able to lead the offense rather than watch Garoppolo perform from the sideline. San Francisco isn’t sure how long Jimmy will be out, but doesn’t need to panic about its quarterback situation with Lance at the helm.

Trey surely isn’t happy about the fact that he’s taking over at the expense of his injured teammate, but nonetheless, this is his opportunity to prove to the coaching staff that he should remain as the team’s starter.

The 49ers will travel to take on the undefeated Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, so if Lance has a solid outing for San Francisco, Jimmy should be a thing of the past.
