Bill Cowher’s note to Mike Tomlin after he passed him on Steelers win list is pure class

Legendary Steelers head coach Bill Cowher sent Mike Tomlin an awesome message of support after being passed on the all-time wins list for Pittsburgh.

While the Monday Night Football win was downright controversial for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team did enough to take down the Chicago Bears. Now, Pittsburgh is 5-3 on the year and right behind the 6-2 Baltimore Ravens.

As it turns out, the victory proved to be a historic one for veteran head coach Mike Tomlin. With that win, Tomlin passed the one and only Bill Cowher for second on the all-time wins list for Pittsburgh with 150. The next morning, Cowher shared a classy note for Tomlin via Twitter.

Bill Cowher was incredibly proud of Mike Tomlin for passing him on the Steelers’ wins list

That’s such a classy move there from Cowher. He spent 15 memorable seasons with Pittsburgh, of course, highlighted by winning Super Bowl XL over the Seattle Seahawks. Cowher is clearly a big fan of Tomlin’s.

Tomlin also has a Super Bowl to his name, as he powered Pittsburgh over Arizona in February of 2009. Ever since Tomlin took over in Pittsburgh, the team has consistently been in the postseason and been a major threat.

While things haven’t quite gone according to plan this season, Pittsburgh is still 5-3 and poised to make the playoffs once again this winter. For Tomlin on an individual level, he’s now chasing Hall of Famer Chuck Noll, who is No. 1 for the Steelers with his 193 victories.

“Man, I’m just appreciative of the standards set by those that have come before me,” Tomlin said Chris Adamski of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “All of us are here. That standard, man, is inspirational for us. It inspires us, challenges us. I’m just thankful to be part of this thing that is the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I work to do my job to uphold the standard.”

Moving forward, Tomlin will of course be focused on putting the team first. With that said, Noll’s record certainly is in his sights.
