Nick Bolton could have hurt Josh Allen, but Cris Collinsworth saw no issue with this dirty tackle.

During Sunday Night Football, color commentator Cris Collinsworth seemed to condone Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton’s dirty tackle of Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

It was a play in the Chiefs’ red zone in a game where Kansas City performed terribly defensively. Allen faked the hand-off to his tailback before sprinting to his right. Bolton grabbed Allen’s left foot while lying on the ground and tried to twist it to bring him to the Arrowhead Stadium turf. This is one of the dirtiest things a player can do to bring a guy down, but Collinsworth loved it.

Bolton may have been a great player in the SEC, but this is not how they teach tacking at Mizzou.

Though Collinsworth played football in a different era, this isn’t the 1980s. Quarterbacks are the star of the show, and the league cannot afford to see one of its brightest stars get seriously injured on a cheap shot by a rookie playing on a terrible defense. Allen could win NFL MVP this year and the Bills could get back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the early 1990s.

This is the type of tackling that should be removed from the game, and not openly celebrated.
