LFA 24: Mackenzie Dern making the move to flyweight

With her undefeated streak on the line, stand-out female MMA prospect, Mackenzie Dern will step back into the cage this October.

When Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) unpacks the cage this October, one the sport’s fastest rising female figures will once again emerge under the bright lights in Phoenix.

First reported by MMA Junkie, undefeated Mackenzie Dern (3-0-0) will square off against “MissDemeanor” Mandy Polk (3-3-0). For the first time in her MMA career, Dern will make the move up in weight class to the 125-pound, flyweight division.

LFA 24 will be Dern’s second bout under the promotion’s banner.

Dern last defeated Katherine Roy in March at LFA 6. A world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Dern has made great strides in her MMA repertoire. Dern also holds a first-round submission victory over Ultimate Fighter 26 participant, Montana Stewart. Coincidentally, Stewart and the rest of the TUF 26 cast are competing to determine the UFC‘s inaugural women’s flyweight champion.

In preparation for her upcoming LFA bout, Dern is scheduled to compete this weekend in Finland. Dern will be defending her ADCC title after winning a gold medal at the 2015 ADCC World Championship.

While Dern defends at ADCC, her opponent will be knee deep in fight prep as she looks to rebound from a loss last December.

After starting her professional MMA career with two straight losses, it looked as if Polk had found her footing in the fight game. Polk assembled an impressive three-fight win streak, including a first-round submission victory of her own over Briannah Conaster. Polk’s win streak hit a sudden halt at RFA 46.

In her first appearance for Resurrection Fighting Alliance, Polk went up against hard-hitting Katy Collins. Collins dispatched Polk by TKO with under 30 seconds remaining in round two. A purple belt in BJJ, and IFBB professional fitness competitor, Polk will look to derail Dern’s hype train when they step into the cage October 13 at the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.
