Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is not only an all-time great, but he’s also the reason why the New England Patriots missed a game-winning field goal.

The New England Patriots were a doink away from beating Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday Night Football. Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones made it clear that he’s the right heir to the throne that Brady left behind, but the chances of beating Tom on a clutch 50+ yard field goal are extremely slim.

Brady escaped Gillette Stadium with a 19-17 win after New England kicker Nick Folk missed a 56-yard field goal.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick elected to kick a 56-yard field goal in the pouring rain with 59 seconds remaining in the game rather than have Jones and the offense go for it on 4th & 3. Folk had made 36 straight field goals before his game-winning attempt hit the left upright with an audible doink.

Kickers are 0/6 on clutch FGs of 50+ yards against Tom Brady teams.

Peyton Manning lost 3 games to the Jaguars alone on 50+ yd FGs.

Perhaps Belichick should’ve been told that statistic prior to making the decision to send Folk out on the field. There’s one thing that should never be done, and it’s betting against Brady.

Tom is not only the NFL’s all-time leading passer after he surpassed Drew Brees on Sunday night, but he also excels at making sure that the opposing team’s kicker misses clutch field goals. He’s 42-years-old and has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

Folk made a 58-yard attempt pregame and said that the weather conditions didn’t impact his 56-yard miss. Of course, the rain didn’t matter. Brady was on the opposing team’s sideline and that’s all that Folk needed to ensure that he’d miss the game-winning kick.
