Though head coach Matt Nagy will not be available vs. the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon, here is why that is not the end of the world for the Chicago Bears.

With Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy being ruled out for Week 8‘s home game vs. the San Francisco 49ers, this provides the organization an opportunity to see what they have without their much-scrutinized head coach.

Nagy tested positive for COVID-19 after last weekend’s disaster vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Special teams coordinator Chris Tabor will be filling in. Though Chicago is starting to lose control of its season, it is not like the 49ers are all that good either. It will be a very small sample size, but Nagy’s absence could reveal what this team could look like without him.

If Chicago beats San Francisco at home, that might only hasten the Bears organization to move on from their struggling head coach.

Bears not having Matt Nagy could prove to be beneficial vs. 49ers

By not having Nagy around, it may allow offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to call an unencumbered game. A similar effect happened after the Raiders and Jon Gruden separated and the offense could try new things without him running the operation.

Either way, the Bears organization must accept what its fanbase already knows in that Nagy is not the answer for them at head coach. Maybe Sunday helps in that regard?

Win or lose, the only person on the Bears who truly loses on Sunday would have to be Nagy.
