Bugatti announced that there are only 40 build slots remaining for its current generation hypercar, the Bugatti Chiron.

The automaker has said that only 500 units will be made and with the uptick in sales, that number will be reached soon.

The announcement comes almost five years after the marque first introduced the Chiron at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The hypercar boasts an 8.0-litre W-16 engine. Rocketing from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 261 miles per hour.

The Chiron’s popularity has also given rise to variants such as the Sport, Pur Sport, and Super Sport. There were also special editions like the US$18.87 million La Voiture Noire.

The Chiron has been a hit since its debut. Within 18 months from its initial release, 300 of the limited 500 models had been sold. The 300th unit was delivered in March this year.

The sales momentum had continued throughout the years and into 2021, despite the global challenges posed by Covid-19, which is apparent as six months after the 300th Chiron was delivered, there are only 40 units remaining.

“With the Chiron Pur Sport and Super Sport, we are offering customers the culmination of years of continual development of the Chiron platform. This spectrum of performance, whether it be hitting the apex on-track, or cruising on Autobahns in total luxury, takes the Chiron to an entirely new level. Now with so few build slots remaining, the purity of the W16 recipe is being honored in style,” said Hendrik Malinowski, Director of Sales and Operations

However, the remaining spots left are reserved for the US$3.6 million Pur Sport and US$3.9 million Super Sport.

Bugatti hasn’t revealed what’s next after the Chiron, however, Porsche had just confirmed production of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. The GT4 RS is 23 seconds faster than the original 718 Cayman GT4. The GT4 RS is scheduled to be released sometime this month.
