Despite coming away with a win over the Eagles in Philadelphia, the Chiefs defense continues to be frustrating to watch each week.
Something has to change as soon as possible for the Kansas City Chiefs defense and fast. While fans are jacked up over the 42-30 win over the Eagles on Sunday, Steve Spagnuolo’s unit failed to impress once again. Jalen Hurts looked outstanding for Philly, consistently making plays against Kansas City.
For the Chiefs, they feature one of the best offensive units in the game. With that said, it’s their defense that really could prevent them from winning their second Super Bowl in a three-year span.
Kansas City’s defense struggled once again on Sunday and it’s frustrating for fans to see
The Chiefs are now 2-2 on the year, but the defense is giving up an average of more than 31 points per game. That’s got to keep Andy Reid up at night. In the win over the Eagles on Sunday, Hurts ended up throwing for 387 yards and two touchowns. For him to light up the secondary like that is a big-time disappointment.
It’s been like this since the start of the season for Spagnuolo’s unit. Baker Mayfield and Co. nearly took them down in Week 1, while Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert had their way with Kansas City in KC’s Week 2 and Week 3 losses.
In Week 4 against the Eagles, Kansas City is fortunate that Mahomes played at such a high level. In the victory, the superstar signal-caller tossed for 278 yards and five touchdowns, with three of those scores going to Tyreek Hill.
This team is built to compete for another Super Bowl title, but it’s really feeling like this defense could prevent the city from hosting a parade this winter. It’s time for Spagnuolo and his defensive leaders to figure things out.
