According to the emails reviewed by the New York Times, Gruden “denounced the emergence of women as referees, the drafting of a gay player and the tolerance of players protesting during the playing of the national anthem.”

The emails were sent to then-Washington Football Team president Bruce Allen while Gruden was a commentator for ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

In the emails, Gruden took aim at NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who he called a “f—-t” and a “clueless anti football pussy,” per the New York Times. Additionally, Gruden said that Goodell should not have pressured then-St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher to draft “queers,” which is in reference to the team selecting Michael Sam in the seventh-round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Gruden took aim at former San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid, who kneeled during the national anthem, saying that he should be fired.
