New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick compared Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to his longtime friend, Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

Compliments don’t come often from the lips of Bill Belichick, but when they do, they are the most glowing reviews one could hope for from arguably the greatest NFL coach of all time.

This week, Belichick expounded on how much respect he has for his longtime offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels.

Bill Belichick just spoke at length about Josh McDaniels and how much respect he has for him as an all-around coach. Belichick made a comparison to Nick Saban when Saban was on Belichick’s staff in Cleveland.

Admiring his all-around coaching skills, Belichick made a flattering comparison, saying that McDaniels reminded him of Alabama head coach Nick Saban when Saban was on Belichick’s staff in Cleveland.

Like Belichick, Nick Saban is famous for making a name for himself as one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. Both Belichick and Saban are known as the most succesful coaches of all time.

Saban has won seven National Championships as a head coach, winning his first with LSU in 2003 and six more with Alabama in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017 and 2020. The seventh allowed Saban to surpass former Alabama Bear Bryant as the coach with the most national championships in college football history.

Like Saban, Bill Belichick has the most championship titles of any NFL coach in league history, accruing a total of six in his two decades with the New England Patriots.

Funnily enough, these two worked together back when Belichick was the head coach of the Cleveland Browns. While Saban didn’t see the same success in the NFL, he found his footing in college football and has mastered the sport the way Belichick has in New England.

Saban, 70, and Belichick, 69, see the sport like few others do, which they discussed in an exclusive HBO documentary titled, “The Art of Coaching.”

For anyone looking to learn from these two greats, the documentary offers insight into the two greatest minds the sport has ever seen, as well as a look at the lifelong friendship these two have built over the years.

There are few people Belichick respects as much as Saban, so to compare McDaniels to his close friend is the highest praise the Patriots coach could offer.
