Fight Week: Teofimo-Kambosos Promise Action

Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. will finally have their long awaited fight for the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight super championship on Saturday at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.

The confrontation between Lopez and Kambosos has been on the table for several months but different drawbacks such as a positive Covid 19 result for the champion and even a change of promoter along the way, have been delaying the fight.

Teofimo will make the first defense of the black and gold crown, which he won against Vasyl Lomachenko in October last year. At just 24 years old, the American of Honduran descent also holds the IBF, WBO and WBC crowns.

“The Takeover” will come out of a year-long inactivity to prove that his position as the number one in the division, but he will have to pass a tough test against Kambosos, an undefeated fighter who will not be easy for the monarch.

The 28-year-old Australian comes into the bout after defeating veteran Lee Selby. He has a good boxing, a respectable power and a long career that makes him worthy of facing the best fighter of the moment.

This week different promotional activities will take place and on Friday will be the official weigh-in where both will have to weigh 135 pounds to be qualified for the fight. Teofimo has 16 career wins and 12 knockouts, while Kambosos has 10 knockouts in 19 victories.
