The Tennessee Titans gave the New York Jets their first win of the season on Sunday.

The Tennessee Titans entered MetLife Stadium to take on the winless New York Jets on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 record. The Titans left New Jersey with an embarrassing 27-24 loss in overtime after kicker Randy Bullock missed a 49-yard field goal to tie the game.

Tennessee emerged as a Super Bowl contender early on in the season, but those hopes were completely shot in Week 4 after the Titans fell to the.. Jets?

Tennessee Titans upset by the New York Jets in overtime

Tennessee remains atop the AFC South division even after losing, but that’s not saying much. The Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Colts are the Titans’ competition.

Let’s put this loss into perspective. New York entered Week 4 with a combined 20 points through the first three weeks of the season. Last Sunday, the Jets were blanked by the Denver Broncos, 26-0. Rookie quarterback Zach Wilson hadn’t thrown a touchdown since he threw two in Week 1, but finished with two more against Tennessee’s defense.

For the Jets’ offense to come alive against the Titans’ defense is something that should cloud Tennessee’s chances to be one of the top teams in the AFC. There are weeks where teams perform poorly, but to lose to a New York team that has severely struggled so far this year isn’t a forgivable excuse. Even without wide receivers A.J. Brown and Julio Jones.

Titans’ veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill went 30-for-49 with 298 yards and one touchdown that came late in the game to force overtime. Tannehill showed up when it mattered on the final drive in the fourth quarter, but his performance this week wasn’t exactly promising.

This is a huge yikes for Tennessee.
